Once upon a time, there was an island on the extreme western side of Sicily, its name was Trapani, a unique town surrounded by the sea on the 4 sides of the fortified walls. Everything changed during the XVIIth century, when the sea channel separating Trapani on the east side of the town from the rest of Sicily, was covered by ground and the town was unified forever.
Before that, when the town was called Drepano because of the original form of a sickle (drepanon in ancient Greek), on its own sea towards the Aegadian Islands, the course of the history of the Western civilization shifted on March 10th, 241 B.C. changing the role of Superpower of the Mediterranean sea from Carthage to Rome. The same sea, and the same town Trapani welcomed king Peter III from Aragon on August 31th 1282 to be proclaimed king Peter I of the new kingdom of Sicily during the Vespers revolution.

A general historical tour will cover all major historical events from more than 3,000 years ago, from the Elymian civilization to today.
We will visit the oldest sites of the town going back to more than 2,500 years ago; from then, we will walk in history and in the town of Trapani while visiting the main historical sites, monuments, churches, palaces and all the other useful spots along the way.
Itinerary:
Trapani: historical centre with main palaces, churches like Purgatorio (with Misteri) or Saint Peter (with one of the greatest musical organ in the world), fish market, seaside areas like Tramontana walkside, Ligny tower area, some bakeries and other food and drink places for a street food experience. Outside the historical centre: the Pepoli museum and the Annunziata church with the statue of the Holy Virgin from Trapani.
